Convolvulus: from the Latin word convolvere, meaning to twine around, referring to the twining habit of the stem of most plants in this genus. (Latin origin )
sabatius: Originating from or belonging to the Italian city of savona. (Latin origin )

Remarks :

Perennial but may not survive in cold winters. However climate change that in Malta is drifitng to a warmer climate and milder winters, favours the growth of this alien species. Variable in its hairiness and size and shape of leaves.

Description, Habitat and Distribution
Habitat in Europe: Dry, calcareous rocks
Preferred habitat in Malta: Cultivated in parks but sometimes seen to escape locally in nearby rocky ground, walls and paths
Botanical Description: Sparsely to densely pubescent perennial with branched, woody stock; stems 10-50 cm, slender, trailing or ascending, simple or branched, herbaceous. Leaves petiolate; lamina 1-1½(-3) times as long as wide and 3-8 times as long as petiole, orbicular to oblong, cuneate to truncate, entire. Peduncles axillary, usually as long as or shorter than bracts, 1- to 3-flowered. Outer sepals usually acute, inner sepals usually acuminate. Corolla 15-22 mm, pink to blue.
Distributional range: Coasts of N.W. Italy and Sicilia
