Maltawildplants.com is now considered an online flora of the Maltese islands, portraying more than 900 species of plants found in Maltese habitats. It harbours a forum created in 2005 were memberes discuss topics about the Maltese flora and ID of plants.
Could one of the experts out there please identify this Allium species for me - I have no idea of what it is - these two pictures were taken at the end of March at the Scouts headquarters in Floriana - (sorry about the poor quality of the pictures - the plants were in the shade of a largish tree, and light levels were very low)

Today I was at Flower Power and saw something like this as an ornamental packet of bulbs for sale.
The title pic of the product showed a more dense inflorescence, but globose with pure white flowers and broad leaves as the one you have here. If you have time, you might drop to Flower power to see the bulbs. They are near the cash counter.
Is this allium species (used to be) sold as an ornamental? I am curious what species the FLower Power florists had on display! They had large (5cm accross) sub-spherical bulbs with an ash-gray tunic.
its naturalized in gardens so it must have been planted there. If it was ever a popular ornamental i dont know.
Since there are several 1000 bulbous plant varieties on sale its difficult to identify them from the bulb alone. ask the florist about the sp.
