Vagrant HedgeHog
Since there are not many posts on Mammals, here I add a new entry! The Vagrant Hedgehog, probably the only hedgehog found in Malta. The scientific name is Erinaceus algirus.
Some interesting facts:
- Feeds snails, slugs, insects, small lizards, small frogs, worms.
- Good sense of smell and hearing
- Does not hibernat (in Malta ?)
- 2-4 litter between May and October
The photos are of a lazy young specimen. It was nice to feel his spines.

Actually i think the hedgehog is the stinkiest animal on earth! Its always crammed with those nasty ticks and all sorts of lice that live in its fur. Contrary to popular belief the hedgehog is not such a clean animal after all!
