Opuntia with small leaves

Post by MWP admin »

Any clues on this Cactus (Opuntia spp. ?). It looks to be a relative to Opuntia ficus-indica, but it has smaller leaves often without 'spines' while the fruit is small and always purple-maroon.

Opuntia dillenii was my wild guess

Correction: I met a rather large population in an urban area and some leaves had conspicuous long spines (beige in colour), which seem to fall easily.
