I encounter many different red and black Lygaeid Heteroptera in my travels around Europe most of which I have been able to get identified but this one found at Attard on 16 Aug 2012 has eluded identification. I wonder if anyone can help?
Many thanks

Thanks Stephen. As indicated I have seen and photographed many varied and different red and black Lygaeid species in my travels around Europe and they are difficult though all except this one are identified. Popular literature covers very few of these and as such there are many misidentifications on the web! I am certain that this is not Scantius aegyptius which is a species that I often encounter and know well. That has very different markings to this one as indeed do so many other species! I just wondered if there might be a resident Hemiptera specialist on the island as this species also has my specialist contacts from the UK and elsewhere stumped. If you have images of your species I would be interested to see them.
I will continue to work on this one and my other queries!
