chameleon

Post by jackpot »

Sorry about a simple question of a botanist: How long takes it for a chameleon to change the colour from green to dark grey?

I am not an expert but I would say within 10 mins from my observations, given that the background is changed immediately and the animal feels threatened.

WHY is it important Jack? - MWP is a very curious guy!

Have you noted my pic of a green chamaleon on the Maltese Wild Nature Page?

not important, just interested, because once we picked one up and hold him but he did not change to the skin colour.

The chamaleon fancied you Jack!

Post by MWP admin »

Maybe he was not afraid of you

I think to change colour, he must be lying on a completely grey-brown background and ambient. On your hand it could still see lot of green grass underneath. - Just my assumption.

Below is my photo of the chamaleon - first spotted on a green bush at M'Scala and tried to catch him for a suitable photo but he 'ran' lile crazy - then snapshot it in action.

The white spots were already turnung yellow.

Photo below found on www.maltawildplants.com/WildNature.html

What do you do to make it turn green ?
Whenever I have come across one it is always Grey/Brown. I even move them to a green background, with the help of a twig, wouldn't dare touch them with my hand, but they still won't turn green.
Swearing at them in Maltese (as they are natives of NA they should understand me as Maltese is very similar to Arabic) doesn't do the trick either.
What's your secret ?

Yes I want to find time to put a great number of photos on the fauna part of the web.... but lack of time and demotivation are at their best!

Hmmm... I may actually pass over major part of the fauna section of the website to you. The way the fauna section operates is easy - you need to fill an XL sheet and send images. I do the rest!

Photos all credited

X' tahseb?

By the way, it can also be reached as www.Maltafauna.com
