Common Heliotrope?

Need some help with identification of both the relatively large plant and the smaller one next to it.

Personally I find the larger one difficult as I don't have a sense of scale, the smaller one should be moderately easy (except lacking flowers) for persons with a greater interest (and knowledge) in this genus than myself, but again the "scale" issue comes into it as there are plenty of plants whose leaves appear practically identical in shape.

The best I can do for the "larger" one, if the leaves are not more than 20mm in size, is Teucrium fruticans, Zebbugija, Olive leaved germander - a bushy plant currently bearing lilac-white flowers.

Yes, the large one looks like Teucrium fruticans becasue it has the underside of the leaves wooly/felt-white, as seen by the leaf shoots in the apex.

The smaller one is a member of the Fabacea, and I would guess lotus spp. but apart from that it is difficult to say which as one need to see the fruit (legume) for a more accurate I D.

Actually there is some scale, the blurry Crosswort in the foreground and the Asparagus in the background.

T.f. is my best bet for the large one considering the photo's limitations.

That helped quite a lot actually and I confirmed the names with literature books. However the species of the Lotus is still a big questionmark.

I think we did quite well in id'ing the blur on the LHS as Crucianella rupestris

Grey, can I ask you what was so special to identufy the plants in your photo (without flowers). Can you tell us a bit about you?

I'm actually a university student from the faculty of science doing a vegetation survey in a valley and am currently in the process of identification.
