Broom species

I was surprised to hear that broom is found in the wild in Malta (or maybe Gozo). Is this really so?

I found this plant near Rabat, but it is very possible (likely) to be planted.

Can anyone offer any more info about broom species in the wild in Malta/Gozo?

yes, looks like Spartium junceum- have it not seen in the wild, and even rare as an ornamental (e.g. Floriana).

one of the last wild pops should be in the Buskett area. very strange its so rare in Malta. in italy its common on limestone and clay. hope the cultivated plants are from native stock.

Yes it's true, in Sicily sometimes you get hillsides completely yellow with this, even volcanoes

I suppose its the same species.

I never saw/noted in Buskett, where?

Maybe in Malta these were cut down for burning, I guess that once dried the plants burn extremely well.
