Ocassionally could be in gardens, maltese have the habit to plant anything it comes to their hands in their gardens, but the hints are for the norm of the cases.
What part you did not understood sdravko? Anyway a photo counts a thousand words!
1 plant is in a garden across Anton, another 1 on a farm behind San Guan, another 1 on a farm in Wardija, another one .... (and another part of the plant was on my desk at the office, 4 hours ago)
Its true I never seen the flower before so I was induced to post the quiz and it seems not many are familiar with it Jack. The difficult part from the little research I did (after posting) was to know the exact species name!!
At least RB symphonically* but not botanically got the Genus.
Actually RB mentioned it in his funny way as it is a Musa spp. However I admit that I cannot tell the full species becasue there are a number of Musa spp producing edible bananas the most important ones being Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana and their hybrids!
I am not an expert to tell which banana species was this. Have you ever seen the flowers of this plant?
yep, usually they are not as dark. cant remember if i ever saw a Maltese in flower so dont know if your colour is normal in Malta. regarding the 'sp' bananas have been bred and hybridized for such a long time, its difficult to speak about sp but some name even the cultivars as sp.
