white Anacamptis pyramidalis?

Post by sandra »

Is this a white form of the Anacamptis pyramidalis? Photo was taken in the area between the two temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra. First time seen it white. Loads of orchids there this year :D

do you have a closeup of the flowers and whats the date you took the picture? there is a lot of white A. urvilleana at Hagar Qim and from the vegetation in your picture it seems that it was taken the time when A. urvilleana is in flower.

Unfortunately I took this photo on the rush as It wasduring a fieldwork session so I was zooming arond identifying plants all over the place. The date was 29th March (Day of the eclipse) I'm attaching a larger version of the photo so it looks clearer. Isnt A. urvilleana less conical?

If any of you two are around during that period it would be lovely to have you for our fieldwork session. We have been monitoring this site for some 4 years now and do the garigue on both sides of the path

Thanks jackpot. Then I learnt something new.

I know the feelings, students can give you a tough time. I had to co-ordinate datacollection from some 110 students this year with the help of other teachers. Yours are older though which helps. Maybe i should come over to Germany to do some fieldwork with a group of students. Im taking them to sicily in the etna region for fieldwork and biology related visits next November.

Howcome you chose Malta for your students? You seem to come over regularly. If your'e interested in twinning let me know. I'm in fact trying to make contact with some foreign european school.

To sdravko... what are your researching locally. I did my Msc thesis with Mr Lanfranco and Dr A Vella. If you need any data of Ramla l-Hamra and Ghajn Tuffieha please feel free to ask. Idid coastal transects of both places for both terrestrial and marine (flora and fauna).

We have started doing fieldwork in Chadwick lakes these last two years. We work on small vertebrates and invertebrates in the water course, but no plants. Usually we go during the 1st week of March. However should you need I am ready to help.

No I do not work with Gaia, I am a volunteer with BICREF though. I currently teach biology in a government Junior Lyceum (St Lucija) although I wish to move on to a research job or teach more advanced biology in the near future and use the knowledge I gained in my masters degree. My students are 13-16 year olds.
