Further Information: An agile reptile which grows up to 30cm long. Colouration is dull brown to yellowish, very glossy and slippery, with scaled eyes and hence giving them the common name of ocellated skink. This species has short legs and often crawls on its abdomen when moving. It is commonly found between stones of rubble walls and open stoney spaces, less frequent in sandy localities. It feeds on small insects, worms, larvae and woodlice. Gives birth to 2-3 young who can live between 5-10 years. A Mediterranean species reported only from north Africa, Malta, Sicily and south Italy and Greece. |
