I saw a small tree marked Malpighia coccigera at S Anton. But comparing the information found online, it seems that the label on the tree is very wrong.

This is M.c.

but the one at san anton I do not think looks like this (the leaves) and also the fruits, resembling little pumpkins, with side ribbing, have ONE seed not the advised 2-3.

I thought that this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acerola

looks a bit (but not a lot) more like the s anton tree, but again, 2-3 seeds mentioned, not 1.

Do you have any idea of the name of the tree at s anton?

Maybe not even any Malpighia?

as you can see, I know the label and I know the tree
:)
but I never found a flower or a fruit or another specimen in Malta, therefore I ignored it. Do you have a pic of the flower?

Sorry no, I saw the tree last week and only saw the fruits, they are cherry-coloured, about 2.5 - 3 cm diameter, and shaped like a little pumpkin, with side ribbing. There is a single seed inside - I opened about 6 fruits and all had only one seed.

If I re-visit soon, I will take photos of the fruit, etc.

Tks
