English common name Hollyhock.
Available in shades of pink, white, and a deep wine colour. Perennial - Sow in Sep/Oct, under good conditions will flower first year, second year will grow a larger flower spike up to 8ft tall.
Some plants don't make it to the second year however. Seeds freely but does not seem to establish in the wild, probably the seedlings get eaten (snails, etc) in a natural environment, and/or initially grow too slowly and are overwhelmed.

Found in: Palace Gardens (e.g. San Anton Gardens), also found in private gardens and hotel gardens.
Occurrence in the Maltese Islands: Rare-frequent.
