Some fun for the hard working botanists and green fingered. A sort of posting Quiz and educative posts. N-Joi...

A maybe-hard quiz from MWP. Hint: It's from Buskett.

I dont know what yuo mean by C.i. (Cistus?) but the initials do not correspond to the Quiz plant. You may write the full species name - dont worry for guessing it fast!

I had a shot at Carya illionensis but apparently this is not it therefore.

I can confirm JP that it has both edible and medicinal uses but I am not sure to what he is referring in his mind?! There is not 2 's' in the species name!
When you tell me, I give the next hint...

The leaves are very large and the inflorescence is a 30cm spike or more!

Back to the forum after another short holiday away from PC and electronic stuff.
Jackpot got the jackpot !
Congratulations (finally!)
Originally, I posted this Quiz to show that it is difficult to ID a plant just from a close-up of a part of the plant even if this could be rather common.
Welcome Rutger from Belgium to the flora of Malta!

Thanks. To introduce me; I do field-survey for a living in the Netherlands and Belgium looking for special plants en vegetations. In the holidays I like to go to the mediterranean, looking for plants. Been on Malta also. I remember Ranunculus bullatus (it was december 1997), never seen it again. Bought Haslam then in a small bookshop from a big pile. Hope I can be of any assistance.

Bought me Weber last april. I also have 'Wildlife of the Maltese islands'. Are there more books about Maltese plants since 1997?
Went on holiday in april to Sicily and found many plants well illustrated in the book by Weber. Together with Blamey, Schönfelder (Mittelmeer und Kanarenflora), Flora europaea volume 5 (grasses etc, heavy!) some prints from internet (mainly about the endemics;
http://web.tiscali.it/florasicula/ ) and a local flora about Zingaro (
http://www.lepos.it/home/php/schede/sch ... _libro=816 ), we got around.

Ok, message understood.

There was a following question... I'd like to post some questions/photos about unnamed/difficult plants I found on Sicily. Is that ok?

Hi, I am the admin of this forum and regards your query it is not really OK becasue we get confusion in the ID topic of what is in Malta and abroad, so for this reason the best thing to do is I open for you a new topic related to ID abroad Malta, and yes you can post as much as you want.
Give me a moment...
