I have seen a Cynara like this some field track at the south of Qala (gozo) and it is a hybrid between the wild and the agricultural one. I am not sure if yours is the agric. one since I think that the hybrid one has slightly spiny inflorescenses. >>Prone to correction<<

This one had a sea-view

possibly it's the same plant. No it's not ornery artichoke, it's a 50/50. I wonder whether it produces viable seed.

ironically the hybrids seem to occur only in Gozo.
maybe we maltese eat so much globe artichokes with the result being that they are not allowed to flower!

I seen one also in Gozo, not far away from Hondoq ir-Rummien. Beside it, there was the wild one, so I have a good photo of the two adjecent to each other. No need to post I assume.

For Robcar - Yes close to Mgarr, I guess that plant also is "south of Qala" therefore well it must have quite an ego by now with all the attention.

You may even be right, in a way. I only noticed the edible arti being allowed to seed in Gozo - obvously this also happens in Malta but maybe to a much lesser extent. I noticed this in Xlendi, and also Ramla valley.

Seems Gozitans have different ways of doing things, in many minor "things" (oops that word again, for lack of imagination..).

In fact I grew this this year, from seeds collected in Ramla. Very easy and very fast growing.

So not surprising that the halfies are concentrated in Gozo.
