8th of March and its floral symbol

Tomorrow is 8th of March, which in my native country is known as International Women's Day. On this day all (or almost all) women in Russia receive small presents and bouquets of flowers. Kind of floral symbol of this day is mimosa (the reason why it is so I do not know).
In Malta along the roads and in some afforestated areas like il-Mizieb or Armier there are plenty of trees, which are now in blossom and their flowers look very much like mimosa. Does anyone know what is this plant. I suppose it is not indigenous...

I look at these trees and have a glimps of 8th of March here

Fast growing, but short lived, for which all hayfever sufferers are thankful.

The most common one is the Blue-leaved acacia (Acacia saligna). It's a spectacular tree despite the bad reputation with Hayfever (as RB said) and hunting applications.

Well, we should bring a bouquet to Mrs. Zurrija next Sunday

but dont bring Acacia horrida by mistake

hehehe yes, undoubtedly that will be longer-lived than the bouquet, much more useful, and costs less

Hope sales are good, The Times regularly places a good sized advert for it, definitely helps with appreciating the "weeds" more.
