This is a species of Cuscuta (Dodder) which in Maltese we general call as "Pitma". It is likely Cuscuta epithymum from it's reddish colour, although a 100% ID would require the flowers (tiny masses in April)

Thanks Stephen. I will visit the site in April so that I can photograph the flower.

I am 99.9% sure of C. epithymum :)
