For my first post I decided to start burdening you out there with one of my plant identification problems. Could somebody please help by identifying this plant. I found it last April at the Ghar il-Kbir area lo Buskett. It was the only one I saw. Thanks.

Hi- welcome! This is a Carex species, looks like C. flacca

Thanks jackpot. Rushes, sedges and grasses are a no go area for me! I have no idea on how to even attempt to identify such plants.

It seems that only expert botanists can hope to feel somewhat comfortable with such plants! Haslam's flora lists 10 species of Carex for the Maltese Islands and states that C.flacca is locally common without giving any locations.

you are right, and even specialists (which I am not) often do not care about those groups- unfortunately, because they could be of importance. E.g. I hate Bromus
