Probably not at all uncommon, but very secretive. This is the second one (or maybe third, I forgot) I have ever seen, i would imagine that if they enter houses (not a common occurrence) they would be thought to be mice and annihilated.

On the contrary to mice however these are highly beneficial creatures, at least on mankind's scale of values.

Speaking of mice, on a recent visit to Fomm Ir-Rih hundreds of mouse-holes were evident by the shrubs/plants (Esparto grass, Darniella, etc), and also the occasional healthy mouse was seen.

I wonder why the concentration, there did not seem to be a lot of stuff they could eat, maybe the holes were for the purposes of eating plant roots?
