Camoflaged with the light brown soil

Post by MWP admin » Mon Dec 05, 2005 12:51 pm

Here is a quite large mushroom, about 12cm across, which has the same colour of soil it grows 'in'. Probably there is some dead branch just under the soil.

This was taken during the walk organised by ceratonia. Dr. Edwin Lanfranco was with us and identified this fungus bit I did not keep note of what he said.

Anyone knows what is it.

Not a good idea to be camoflaged because it easily gets stepped over, however I am sure that the colour match was simply accidental. The soil clumps over the sporangium makes it more camoflaged.
Quite large mushroom found at ix-xaghra l-Hamra, limits of Ghajn Tuffieha.
