Wild mushrooms in Fgura garden

Post by Rachael » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:54 pm

I wonder if someone may be able to help me with this?

I live in Fgura and have a small back garden. We have lived here for 2 years & after having done some work in our garden, my husband & I noticed a few clusters of mushrooms growing. We have an 18mth old son who's now venturing into the garden. My concern is that the number of mushrooms have increased quite drastically & I want to be sure they're not poisionous. Please find 4 pics below (sorry about the 2nd one I kept it just in case.) There seem to be 2 or 3 different types.

I am keen to learn more....

Thank you!

Thank you Il-Pine!

I'll be cautious after the rain as the damp soil will probably encourage more to grow!

see guys here's the thing.....

there are a lot of mushrooms on our islands and i think nobody has given really a rat's bottom about kingdom fungi in malta. The book of wildlife of the maltese islands is very poor and it gives only the most pecuiliar looking or most common mushrooms.

As jackpot said fungi cannot be really identified only by photos. Example to verify a species often you would need to cut off the stipe and see if any color change occurs, or if any aroma is present.

I echo pine's thinking. Only a few fungi are edible (and some of which need to be cooked well before eaten) some contain hallucinogens and others contain dangerous toxins so you know. take care of your little one.

Nice photos btw.
no man needs a holiday as much as the man who just had one.
