Carex vulpina and Carex otrubae

While organising my plants on the PC, I came to a taxonomic question.

Do you think the record of Carex vulpina from Malta is really that species or mis-ID with Carex otrubae. Only the latter seems to be found in South Italy and Sicily. Do we have both ?

What is your opinion JP ?

This link gives a hint that C. otrubae should replace C.vulpina in Malta (old).

Not having the book with me, I cant recall what Weber 2006 gives it as, but I think it was C. vulpina. (prone to correction). So confusion arises!

I had the same problem last year.
Then I tried to compare both, and got so mixed up, I could not identify my plants.

Using distribution data (but not a morphological one) I made my opinion that we have C. otrubae and not C. vulpina which is found in more northern parts of Europe from the Mediterranean. Hence here I do not agree with Weber (unless he prooves his identification process for C. vulpina vs C. otrubae)
