Smilax
Yes, it is definitely Smilax.
It is quite a frequent plant, I have seen it in almost every valley I have visited. I think I even saw it at Wied Encita. Usually you notice it when it comes in contact with the skin, just like Rubus!

Ambrosia
Mela, according to the book Coastal sand dunes under siege of 2002, the species Ambrosia maritima "seems to persist only at Ghadira where it is very rare and localised, although young aromatic plants observed at Comino were probably of this species." Thus, it seems you have found another very rare p...

Large eyed Fly
The book of Guido Bonnet and Joe Attard - 'The Maltese Countryside Volume 2', has a photograph on page 199 of a very similar (if not the same) species called Eristalinus taeniops. This seems to be a kind of fly that mimics bees. I have never seen such an animal in my life!

Large moth
Yesterday, whilst parking my car I found this moth resting on the wall of the garage. It was a large moth of approximately 8cm in size. I think it is Agrius convolvuli but not quite certain of its identification.

The caterpillar's picture is probably Orgyia trigotephras which is quite common locally. Enclosed please find pic.

I agree with Steve. The butterfly is the Common Blue Polyommatus icarus. Very good photographs Stephen.
