Megascolia maculata subsp. flavifrons  (Fabricius, 1775)
Main synonym = Scolia flavifrons    Fabricius, 1775
Taxonomical Classification:  Animalia / Arthropoda / Insecta / Hymenoptera / Vespoidea
Large yellow-banded Scolid wasp, Mammoth Wasp     Qerd iz-Zaqquq
Further Information:
The scolid wasp is a frequent insect and is encountered in garigues and valleys especially where wild artichoke flowers are present. This wasp is parasitic on the rhinoceros beetle (It lays the eggs only in the grubs of the beetle) and perhaps that is the reason why the rhinoceros beelte is not so common on our islands.
