Carabus morbillosus subsp. alternans  Palliardi, 1825
Taxonomical Classification:  Animalia / Arthropoda / Insecta / Coleoptera /
Great ground beetle     Bunittien
Further Information:
This beetle has a very curious defense mechanism, emitting a very foul smell (a concentrated smell of animal dung) when irritated or touched. The liquid emitted is very persistent and is effective in repelling any predator. The shiny violent carapace may serve as a warning for predators indicating that the beetle is not palatable. This beetle roams about in valley beds eating little insects.
